Film Critique of Forest Gump
Have you ever seen the movie Forest Gump? It is a great movie both funny and sad. It’s about a guy named Forest Gump who is played by actor Tom Hanks and Forest isn’t a very smart person. But his only friend is named Jenny Curran played by Robin Wright Penn and Forest has a big crush on her. Forests mother is a huge part of his life and she was played by Sally Field. Once forest grows up he goes to Vietnam in the army and meets another friend who is named Benjamin Buford Blue also known as Bubba and is played by Mykelti Williamson. Forests lieutenant is named Dan Taylor played by Gary Sinise. But during a battle lieutenant Dan gets his legs blown off and Bubba dies. Then Forest starts to play professional ping pong. After that he becomes a shrimp boat captain with Lieutenant Dan and becomes rich. In this movie some of the things used to catch the watchers attention are a great storyline, great special affects, and a great screenplay.
Fist off the movie has a good storyline. For example Forest had a flashback to when he got his first pair of shoes and something as stupid as that actually gives you a great idea of what he is talking about throughout the entire story. Then he has another flashback to when he was in the army and without him talking about this bubba and lieutenant Dan wouldn’t have been cared about by the viewers. A little while after that he has yet again another flashback to when he was shrimping and if he didn’t talk about that then we wouldn’t know how he got the money to invest in apple and get rich.
Secondly the movie is full of awesome special effects. For example when he gets awarded all of his medals it is by presidents and of course he wasn’t really there but it looks very real when you see them and also the talking goes very well with forests responses. Another example of these special effects is the bombs, gun shots, and wounds. It looks so real when forest is in Vietnam and the bombs are exploding and guns are fired, also when Lieutenant Dan got his legs blown off and when he got them sewed up it looked like he didn’t actually have legs in real life. Another example of special effects is the aging of people. Although they did have different actors and actresses to play Forest and Jenny as kids, but his mom was the same actress all the way through the movie they just put makeup on her to make her look much older than she actually did.
Third the movie had a good screenplay. For example when they showed his dirty shoes at the beginning you find out that there is actual more to it than just dirty shoes. Another example of screenplay is that when he was a kid he had braces on his legs so he couldn’t dance like a normal kid does. But Elvis rented a room at his house before he got famous and he was showing Forest some moves on the guitar and Forest started to dance and Elvis liked the way he danced so Forest taught Elvis how to dance and that helped Elvis become famous. One more example of screen play is how at the beginning and the end it shows a feather floating and at the beginning it lands on Forest, so he picks it up and puts it in his book and at the end his son is taking the book to school and Forest sees it and picks it up and when he opened it the feather fell out and started floating again.
So some of the things the writer used to catch your attention are an interesting storyline, great special effects, and a good screenplay. So the point of this film is or what I believe is, is that even if you aren’t smart doesn’t mean that you can’t accomplish great things. Think of some famous people that you know of that aren’t really smart and look at how good their doing and how much they’ve accomplished.
